Art Competition Winners 2020
Art Competition Winners 2020

This year the school art competition became a home-schooling activity, in light of lockdown and Covid-19. We were amazed and so impressed with the artwork created at home, and the competition was extremely close.

The theme of this year’s competition was Sea Change: how do we safeguard the future of our seas, which links to our temporary exhibition Sea Change. We were amazed by how all entrants were inspired by the topics of climate change and plastics in the oceans.

We are extremely grateful to the Scottish Seabird Centre, the Anstruther Fish Bar, the Fisher Studio and Pittenweem Arts Festival for sponsoring us: thank you all so much.

Working with Louise Stocker, a local artist who runs East Neuk Beach Craft, and after much deliberation, we are pleased to reveal our 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place, as well as five category winners.

The winner is… Sophia-Rose Marwick-Scott, age 6 in P1/2 at Newport Primary School!

1st Sophia Rose Marwick Scott age 6 P1 2 Newport Primary

My art shows not to put plastic in the sea. My first picture shows what it looks like now with lots of plastic in the sea. My second picture shows what it will look like in 70 years. We should recycle our things. If you are nice to the sea the sea will be nice to you. Lots of people work at sea. My Daddy worked on an oil rig. My Grandma works on a lifeboat. My Grandpa’s brother was lost at sea on his fishing boat.

In second place is Flora, age 12 in P7 at Carnock Primary School!

2nd Flora W age 12 P7 Carnock Primary

In this collage I used sand, small stones, oil pastels, watercolour paint, black paper, glue, sharpie and plastic packaging. It’s called the ‘Dead Sea’.

In third place is Aiden Reekie, age 9 in P5 at St Monans Primary School!

3rd Aiden Reekie age 9 P5 St Monans Primary

The prizes for highly commended in each category go to:

  • Nursery Lucy Kippon, St Monans Nursery
  • P1-P3 Ella Drew, P3 Crail Primary
  • P4-P5 Layla Rose, P4 Kirkton of Largo Primary
  • P6-P7 Fletcher Smith, P6 Crail Primary
  • S1-S3 Keava Doig, S2 Lochgelly High School

Congratulations to all of you on your brilliant artwork!

Thank you to all students and teachers who took part. You can see a selection of the images in the Sea Change Art Gallery and we will be sharing them every Friday on our social media pages!
