This gallery is devoted to the Days of Sail. Here are fine models of fishing vessels before the advent of engines. The famous Scaffies, Fifies and Zulus can be seen, together with fishing gear: sculls (shallow baskets to hold coiled fishing-lines), great-lines and small-lines, nets, etc. There is a diorama showing drift-net and beam-trawl methods, and a cabinet of navigational instruments. The lives of the fisherfolk are reflected by the personal items on show. On the wall hang several of the Museum’s collection of fine paintings including a number of works by John McGhie RA.
