Welcome to our Museum!

To make sure you have a safe and enjoyable visit, we have decided to maintain certain mitigation measures, until otherwise announced, in accordance with industry best practice and Scottish Government (Covid-19) guidelines.

These include pre-booked timed entry, enhanced cleaning, protective screens, hand sanitising stations and one-way routes in the museum galleries.

Please do not visit the museum, shop or café if you or anyone in your household has any symptoms of Coronavirus.

We want you to have a safe and enjoyable visit. During your visit, we encourage you to:

COVID safety instructions: keep a safe distance; sanitise your hands; wear a mask; follow the one-way routes; card payments preferred; any questions - we can help.

Visiting the Museum

Under the latest Scottish Government rules, there are no Covid restrictions on Travel within or into Scotland. This means that we can welcome visitors from any location, although, if you are travelling from overseas, rules may be subject to change and you should check the current guidance on testing for people travelling to Scotland.

Please book a timed entry ticket

Timed entry has been introduced to ensure that we can manage numbers and avoid overcrowding. All visitors, including our Members, can book a timed entry ticket online ahead of their visit to guarantee their entry date and time. Any unsold tickets will be made available to book in-person, on the day, on a first-come, first-served basis.

Families and small groups of up to six people can visit the museum together. All members of the party must arrive at the same time. Once in the Museum you are asked to stay with your party and, in line with Scottish Government (Covid-19) guidelines we would encourage you (including children aged 12 years and over) to wear a face covering throughout your visit.

Arriving at the Museum

When you arrive at the museum, and if you have pre-booked, please present your pre-booked timed entry ticket (either printed or on a smartphone). You will be checked in by our staff before you can start your visit. Please aim to arrive at the museum promptly at your entry time. If you arrive before or after your booking, we may have to ask you to wait until we can safely grant you entry. If you have not booked in advance, we will ask you to wait until the next available entry time.

Café, Shop and Facilities

Please follow the signage to our separate café entrance, come in and take a seat. We will come and take your order at your table. Please note that in line with Scottish Government (Covid-19) guidelines we would encourage you to wear a face covering unless seated at your table.

Takeaway orders will be taken at the door and your order will be brought out to you.

Please note, we are accepting cash and card payments.

The museum shop is open to both museum visitors and general customers. Please note that in line with Scottish Government (Covid-19) guidelines we would encourage you to wear a face covering. To maintain social distancing, we are continuing to monitor the number of customers in the shop at any given time and may have to ask you to wait at busy times.

Toilets in the museum, including an accessible toilet and a baby changing facility are open for the use of museum visitors and seated café customers.

Public toilets are available adjacent to the Harbour Master’s building.

Please refer to the onsite signage and speak to the team should you have any questions during your visit.
