As part of the project East Neuk Unearthed, part of the Year of History, Heritage and Archaeology 2017, a group of volunteers at the Scottish Fisheries Museum researched historical figures of Anstruther and created a trail uncovering hidden aspects of the town’s history. Maps are available from the Museum and more detail on the fascinating stories of the people mentioned on the tour can be downloaded below.

Hidden Histories Map

The map guides you on a tour of Anstruther (there is an option to extend your walk to Cellardyke) based on the blue plaques erected by the Anstruther Improvements Association to celebrate various local people. The tour will take at least 1 hour and includes some steep and uneven surfaces.

The map was designed by Ellie Hyland and produced with support from the Heritage Lottery Fund, Fife Council Strategic Events Investment Programme and the Anstruther Improvements Association.

Copies are available from the Scottish Fisheries Museum.
