Tour Options

  • GUIDED TOURS - have one of our knowledgeable volunteer guides accompany you on a general tour of the museum. Tours can be tailored to suit the topic being studied.
  • SELF-GUIDED TOUR - this option allows teachers the flexibility to create their own experience in the galleries supported by our Educational Resources.

Museum tours can last between 60 - 90 minutes depending on your group’s requirements. Tours can be specially tailored to be focused on a specific topic; please contact us to discuss this in advance.

Follow Up Activities

  • MUSEUM HANDLING BOXES - investigate selected museum objects. Topics cover ‘WWII’, ‘The Fishermen’s Cottage’ and ‘The Fisherlasses’.

  • DRAWING FROM THE PAST - return to your favourite gallery and spend some time studying objects in detail. Drawing materials available if booked in advance.

  • SAFETY AT SEA - combine your visit to the museum with a visit to the local RNLI station. Take a tailored museum tour including our unique ‘Memorial room’, then learn about the importance of the RNLI volunteers in supporting fishermen and other people who go to sea. Topics which can be incorporated into the tour are navigational instru­ments, equipment and clothing, communication, folklore and superstition, lighthouses, lifesaving and rescue.
